Port Everglades in Florida is one of the largest ports in southern united states and an important economic factor for the region.
The port was originally known as Lake Mabel and was not officially established as a deep water harbor until 1927.
The harbor annually handles 5,300 ships including approximately 30 cruise lines. Revenues exceed 60 million annually and waterborne commerce annually exceeds 23 million cargo tons.
